It is my pleasure to recommend Dr. Li to patients needing decompression back surgery. My own surgery was performed by Dr. Li and my recovery has been excellent. I believe my surgery was complicated by my other back issues yet Dr. Li’s skill as a surgeon allowed him to greatly reduce the pain I was suffering. Dr. Li operated on me after my previous, non-UVA surgeon declined. Post-op required some complete, flat bedrest while sedated. I'd wake briefly to see Dr. Li sitting nearby, quietly. That, and excellent communication w/ family is the kind of Dr. he is. 3 years (much improved) after- a 2nd surgery for cages / bone graft / spinal fusions completed my lumbar repairs. All this has enabled me to build core strength [thanks both times !!!!!, PT] and lose more than 60 pounds over 4 years. At age 69, I work 3 or 4 half days+ a week for myself in a small business that I love. I am physically stronger now than 15 years ago. My reason for writing this is that none of my life as it is today would be possible without Dr. Li. From limping or using a cane or walker when we first met, I- reasonably postured- regularly bend, stoop, squat, lift and carry to 30 pounds today. I will always be beholding to this highly intelligent, sincere, patient and caring physician and scientist.

Dr. Li, like all surgeons, is all business. HIs eyes are always smiling (can't tell about the mouth through the mask!). In the office, he was always ready to answer questions but you must ask if you want information. He was a real trooper taking me to surgery at 10:00 PM after my accident and operating 4 hours into the night making sure he had it right. His results were 100% successful repairing a vertebrae back fracture that left most patients paralyzed. THANK YOU, DR. LI!!

My husband had to have disks cleaned up, spacers added and a plate and screws placed in his lower neck. Dr. Li and his team took care of us from start to finish. They set up all appointments, including ones with his primary care. We are 2hrs away and they always keep that in mind when scheduling us. There was not one time that we felt rushed by Dr. Li or his team. they took the time to go over EVERYTHING and stayed with us while we processed the info. anytime I called they called me back right away. Dr. Li explained everything to us so that we understood what was going on. They walked us though every step and were there if we need anything. This was the smoothest experience we have ever had. Before going into surgery my husband was in so much pain he could hardly walk, his quality of life was next to nothing. From the time he woke up from the surgery he has been pain free. He is right back to his normal life and that is 100% because of Dr. Li.

Dr. Li removed a disc from my spine and fused the vertebrae. It seems daunting when described, but it was actually a very successful operation with a quick recovery. In addition, Dr. Li has great bedside manner. He was caring throughout the procedure and followed my progress for a full year.

A co-worker highly recommended Dr. Li and I had the privilege of meeting him when I began having back issues at the beginning of 2022. He took the time to LISTEN to my concerns and to ask the appropriate questions regarding the back pain I was experiencing. He then ordered the necessary x-rays, scans, and an MRI to determine what treatment would be the most effective, but less invasive, to remove the disc pressing on my spinal cord. I felt confident in his skills as a surgeon and appreciated his compassion as a person.
