I have a pretty broad and detailed experience of this facility being an EMT who has work within the facility and a veteran uses the facility. The community living center is by far the best skilled nursing facility within 100 miles. It is head and shoulders above others, it is clean, safe, well staffed, modern and has the best survival/outcome rates. The hospital is a large government run hospital. Which means it is not going to be a cutting edge teaching hospital. It is also not a subpar regional hospital. The care I have received was a kind and compassionate. Everyone was qualified and quite knowledgeable. The primary care facilities are separated into four sections plus a women’s only section. All of them give quality care but do appear rather spartan. Appointments are easy to obtain and if they cannot see you soon enough then you can use the community care network of private positions. The same goes for specialist care. Covid obviously create sleeping bumps in the road but everything still runs smoothly. If you are in need of a Covid test you can walk directly up to the front of the building, be screened at the entrance, be diverted away from regular medical traffic and given a test within five minutes. You will have your results the following morning. You can also utilize the phone systems to speak to a nurse within the emergency department or your primary care team about any questions you may have 24/7. After hearing all of the horror stories about the VA I was extremely surprised to find that WJB Dorn VA was a extremely capable facility.
