List of Spear Physical Therapy's Reviews
I chose this Spear location to treat an injury to start the year. Saba, Elijah and Ricardo made sure every visit was productive. Their professionalism, expertise, and friendly nature made a challenging time into a positive one. If you are on the fence, definitely choose this location.
To anyone reading these reviews, this is such a wonderful place to have PT. I started at the end of December limping into the facility. After three months, I am now running twice a week. There are genuinely good people working here who care so much about your progress. Ricardo, Caitlin, and Elijah, you guys are superheroes. I am so grateful for everything. Thank you Spear for the wonderful work you do.
I have had a great experience at Spear so far. I came in with a very bad sprained ankle and Caitlin has been so helpful, patient and kind throughout this process. I really appreciate all of her help in getting me to feel better. I highly reccomend the york location and Caitlin as a PT!
This Spear facility has a very knowledgeable and professional staff. Due to its location in the AG gym, treatments may include the use of machines, what is very helpful. I highly recommend this Spear facility to anyone who needs to improve their health. I have been feeling better since I started using it.
I have used Spear in the past and will continue to use them. Very knowledgeable and professional. Would highly recommend for any injury or physical need. I would highly recommend Ricardo. I have used Ricardo 3 times in the past for different surgeries that I have had. My daughter also used him to rehab her knee after surgery. He I s very meticulous when it comes to PT. Will definitely use him again in the future.
If there was an option to choose zero stars, I would do so. For those considering Spear Physical Therapy in the Financial District, run away from this place as fast as you can. I was treated at Spear for approx 3 months after experiencing two serious foot injuries that left me in orthopedic boots for months. My PT, Dana, was actually amazing and I really enjoyed the experience working with her. However, the major problem is that Spear’s admins at the front desk and their internal billing department are completely dysfunctional; their billing practices are unethical, possibly illegal as well. I have asked to speak with Spear’s CFO (no response yet) and may also file a complaint with the NY State Medical Board for fraudulent billing. My orthopedist recommended me to Spear following two serious foot injuries. I was told by my PT and by the front desk staff that while they worked with my insurance company, they did not work with my exact program but there was no problem and they will still honor my insurance. They further explained that all I needed to do was pay my $25 copay and then bring Spear my insurance reimbursement checks since they would be made out to my name. Spear would then cash the checks and take care of everything. I was in so much pain with my foot injuries that I thought this arrangement would be perfect. For months I was going into Spear 2 or 3 times a week, paying my $25 for each visit and passing along checks as they came in. Everything seemed to be going great until one day I received a $4000+ bill from Spear that did not factor in a single insurance check that I had dropped off. I was still getting PT at this point and I took the bill into Spear and spoke with the front desk admin (young white woman in her 20s with brown hair) who said there was clearly a mistake and she would speak with billing. Weeks went by and I got another strangely large bill - again, I spoke with the same front desk admin who said she would talk to billing and take care of it. Once the third bill came and clearly nothing had been resolved, I felt I could no longer trust Spear. I wrote a detailed email to my PT explaining that I couldn’t finish my therapy until the billing issue was resolved. Fast forward to almost 10 months later and there is still no resolution or response from Spear. Spear outsources their billing to WebPT and there is a wonderful woman working there who is trying to help me resolve the issue and she confirmed that although Spear cashed the insurance checks that I brought in, there is no record of them in their system. Spear just keeps sending me very pricey medical bills with threatening language. I guess they are hoping to get paid twice? Or maybe they are incompetent? Either way, their billing practices are fraudulent and unacceptable. I’m sharing my story because I know that when you’re in physical pain you just want someone to help you get better, and on the surface Spear seems like a place you can trust. But be forewarned - avoid Spear Physical Therapy at all costs unless you want to end up in the same mess.
BEWARE of their practices with insurance! Sent my daughter to Spear and told her to confirm they are IN NETWORK as they appear in our Insurance carrier's Website. They told her they do take our insurance, but then we got a bill and we noticed they had submitted out of network. I called them out on it and they argued with me that they explained to her that they didn't have a therapist that takes our insurance who is qualified to handle her specific issue. That conversation never took place between their office and my daughter. This is a frowned upon practice sometimes used by medical professionals as the insurance companies pay far more for an out of network claim than in-network claim. Spear got paid out over $1,900 from my insurance company for her visits when they would have gotten paid approx $400 if they had her see an in-network therapist. This is why patients pay so much for insurance. Shame Shame Shame!
THESE PEOPLE ARE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!... and it doesn't hurt that the location where you'll be recovering from your injuries with their talented staff is furthermore extremely light-filled & spacious!!!!! It was my privilege to work with Christina Cottrell, whom I can't recommend highly enough. Apart from her practical knowledge, an additional nicety is that she's not only an attentive listener, but really conveys as much with the entirety of her being— not once did I ever feel her attention stray, and if for any reason she ever needed to divert her focus to other matters during our sessions, she politely made as much clear. This does not always happen in larger PT facilities. And if you've been to a few: not only can this be frustrating when you're trying to heal, but also a bit problematic if— while telling your therapist the symptoms you're trying to address, say— you're unsure that you were even properly heard... and then suddenly you're sent off to a machine across the room & your therapist is already in conversation with a different patient or colleague. Not so with Christina, which is a wonderfully positive plus. All in all: she— and everyone else here, from support staff to aides to management & others— are the exact kind of top-notch people to work with when you're in the generally undesirable position of having to fix / address whatever particular failures your body is finding itself in the midst of. Highly recommended.
The physical therapists here/at Spear change lives. At the very least, I speak for myself. Great people!
The physical therapists are all super friendly. I can always find an appointment that works with my work schedule and have felt so much healing/pain relief since I’ve started here. Juan at the 57th street office is the best!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
